Fight back the summer heat with tested household tips

Ubqari Magazine - May 2016

Although summers have many benefits, they can pose some serious problems too. The heat becomes burdensome for all birds, animals and humans. Everyone tries to fight back against the heat wave by drinking something or the other. But often the artificial drinks that many opt for can be damaging for our digestive system. Due to the summer heat, headaches are quite likely and people become tired quickly too which can lead to a person being unconscious too. Heart rate increases too. In this condition it is vital to keep the patient in a cool environment. Also one must not use cold water and instead go for medium level cold water. Sandal sherbet is quite effective in these days too. Along with this sandal sherbet, one can try and use gond kiteera, sat melathi which help retain the water level in the body. Juice of mangoes that are not ripe yet is quite beneficial too. This counters the effect of hot air in summers. Experts recommend that:

  1. 1.      One must drink at least 13 glasses of water in summer.
  2. 2.      Tea, coffee, cola should be avoided.
  3. 3.      Cover your head when walking in the heat and preferably use a white coloured material.
  4. 4.      Drink a glass of water before leaving the house.
  5. 5.      And upon entry into the house, drink water too.
  6. 6.      Milk and water or lassi should be used frequently too.
  7. 7.      Try and avoid darker colours in summers since they absorb a lot of heat and instead go for pastel colours.
  8. 8.      Leather sandals can be used too since they are less prone to absorbing heat.
  9. 9.      Entertain your guests with homemade drinks rather than carbonated or artificial drinks.
  10. 10.  Keep use of sherbet sandal and sherbet bazoori in summers.
  11. 11.  Goond kteera, isphago, sattu, should be used after adding some balango.
  12. 12.  If you urinate soon after drinking water and fell thirsty all the time too then use melathee 3 4 times in the day. This will prevent loss of water from the body.
  13. 13.  Water melon is quite effective in summers but its use should be accompanied by some salt or pepper. Those who suffer from blood pressure should use pepper only.

Keeping the climate of Pakistan in mind, over the centuries quite a lot of drinks have been invented that help counter the summer season. The list of some of these drinks is mentioned below:
